Dr. John Ap, associate professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was invited by Department of Economics and Management and giving an academic lecture entitled “Developing & Managing Successful Theme Parks & Attractions” at Tianhua College On June 11, 2012. The lecture received warm welcome and keen interest by students and school leaders. Haisen Zhu, director of Department of Economics and Management; Kaibo Zhou, deputy director of Department of Economics and Management and Caiwei Ma, director of Tourism Management Program attended the lecture.
The lecture was divided into three parts: the first part of the lecture was a brilliant keynote speech of Dr. John Ap, which mainly focused on development and management of theme parks and tourist attractions in which students had more understanding of development and management of theme parks ; the second part of the lecture was interactive Qs and As in which students interactive with the speaker; the final part of the lecture was a ceremony in which Haisen Zhu, director of Department of Economics and Management issued a certificate for hiring Dr. John Ap as visiting professor of Department of Economics and Management.
The entire lecture was English only and broadened the international perspective of our teachers and students and expanded students’ learning ideas of their major.
The Profile of Dr. John Ap
Dr. John Ap is an Associate Professor in Tourism Management. He has published over 80 scholarly publications including refereed journal papers, book chapters and conference papers. He has also been involved in a range of consultancy and/or consultancy - type projects involving tourism and recreation planning studies, theme park studies, and market research surveys. Dr. Ap joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1992. Prior to becoming an academic he had worked eleven years as certified town planner in Australia where he specialised in open space, recreation and tourism planning. Senior positions previously held include Project Manager with the Tourism Commission of New South Wales; Associate Head of School; and Undergraduate Programmes Director in the School of Hotel & Tourism Management.
